LEGO2NANO Summer School - The Great Egg Race
13 August 2013
LEGO2NANO - An international nanotechnology making challenge, 1–7 September 2013, Beijing, China
LEGO2NANO关于纳米技术暑期学校 2013年9月1-7日
This summer, 24 PhD students from UCL, Tsinghua and Peking Universities across different faculties have embarked on a competitive challenge. They need to build a working prototype of an atomic force microscope in a week, for under $100, from LEGO Mindstorms and hacked components. Not an easy task!
In the run-up to the project, our members have been practicing their Mindstorms skills with our own version of The Great Egg Race, and attempting to home-brew our own piezoelectric crystals - photos here and here.
Participants will get hands-on with the latest technologies for 3D printing on the macro, micro and nano scales and visit the Zhongguancun technology corridor, Beijing – China's silicon valley. Prototypes will be tested by teachers and school children from Tsinghua school, and learning experts from LEGO Learning Institute.
Organized by the London Centre for Nanotechnology (a joint venture between Imperial College and UCL), the Institute of Making, the Institute of Microelectronics at Peking University and the Centre for Nano and Micro Mechanics at Tsinghua University, In collaboration with the LEGO Learning Institute.
