Small Research Grants - Round Two

The Institute of Making are offering up to £5000 to interdisciplinary research teams around UCL for collaborative research projects on the topic of materials and making.

Who can apply?
All UCL staff and postgraduate students are encouraged to apply. The project must involve at least two researchers from different UCL departments, and it can involve outside parties in addition to the two UCL departments, but not instead of.

What is supported?
Projects must involve research on the topic of materials and making and should bridge the gaps between disciplines. Projects that contribute to collaborative working across UCL in the longer term will be given preference. Priority will also be given to new collaborations and projects that would not be able to attract funding elsewhere.

Some examples of activities that are eligible for funding include:
- Running an interdisciplinary series of symposia or research workshops on the topic of materials or making.
- Developing a pilot study for an interdisciplinary research project that involves two departments at UCL
- Writing a grant proposal for research on materials or making that involves two different departments at UCL.

After the award
The project needs to commence, and its allocated funds be spent, by 31st August 2014. Successful teams are expected to document their work, providing images (or video) and a summary of the outcomes and impact of the project for our documentation and for the Institute of Making website.
