Join artist, metal worker and tool nerd Linda Brothwell for an all-day steel punch making masterclass, through which you will learn a range of metal-working processes. Simple steel punches have long been used to add maker's marks or decorative patterns to ceramics, metal and leather. You will leave this workshop with some punches of your own but, more importantly, with the skills and know-how to keep making more. All of the punches will be made from steel, which you will learn how to saw, dremel, file, harden and temper.

Linda Brothwell is a British visual artist and founder of The Tool Appreciation Society. Her multi-disciplinary practice casts her as a maker and carer of objects, tools and publicly sited interventions. She considers what it means to make something by hand that takes ‘care’ as its core, to not only make the ‘thing’ but to make the tools to make the thing, to spend months or years immersed in the techniques, the materials and the stories of a place.

No experience or skill necessary, all welcome!
